STM to the UK
Rev. Edwin Kong Executive Director
CCM has been bringing the English speaking youth from Canada each summer to the United Kingdom to do mission. We focus on reaching the British Born Chinese youth. Here are some of the responsibilities we carry each time:
Recruiting
We begin recruiting in the fall of each year. A team will be formed by the end of January or February the following year. Today we are building a team of 15 to be deployed in August. They are made up of youth leaders of many churches. Some of them are returnees from previous years. They bear differences in age, sex, gifts and experiences. Last summer, a total of eight churches were involved.
Training and Team Building
The team will meet once to twice a month for training and team building. We teach about the basics of mission, goal and objective, culture and custom of the British youth. Members will be trained to share their personal testimony and faith. They will organize and plan programs for the respective city they will be sent. The following 6 to 7 months, they learn the real meaning of body life. And in the month of August, they will be living and serving together very closely. Usually at the end of the mission trip, a life long friendship is built among them.
Youth Camp
Camp ministry is still one of the most effective means to reach young people today. We organize a camp in the second week in August. Young people come from four corners of England. Many are non-Christians. Last year our attendance was close to 100. We get to live together, sing together, play together and learn together. Life testimonies are shared and the gospel of Jesus Christ is delivered clearly to each of them. Through the years, many have come to faith.
Kiz Camp
The local church in different cities organizes children day camps. Once the youth camp is over, our team is divided into groups of 5 or 6 to be sent into these cities to run the kiz camp for another week. Young hearts are touched by the Bible stories. Christian character and values are taught. The love of Jesus is shared with many through songs and activities.
Discipleship Training
The Great Commission involves making disciples besides preaching the gospel. Therefore a major role of the team is to provide training during and after the youth camp in different cities. Workshops of devotions, Bible study, leading worship, fellowship planning, etc. are taught by the team members. As the team departs at the end of the summer, the local young people will continue to grow and serve in their own churches.
Home Coming
After 3 to 4 weeks of intense ministry, we often schedule a couple of days of rest before taking our flight home. A trip to the city of London is always a highlight particularly for those who have never been to England. Coming home is not the end of our mission, but rather, a new chapter will begin. Emails, MSN, and even long distance calls are part of our follow up effort.
If your church is interested in participating, please do not hesitate to contact me for further information. We look forward to seeing you in England.
